From the very beginning, the goal was to create a building element suitable for end customers – users who will be able to build a fence, ornamental garden wall, garage or even an entire house themselves without in-depth knowledge of construction. That is, an element that can do without lengthy finishing work such as insulation, plastering, painting, which ultimately cost more and take longer than the rough construction itself.
We managed to bring an idea that even Elon Musk failed to turn into a real final product and his Boring Bricks are not publicly available on the market even in California 7 years after their introduction, to life in Czech conditions. The development began independently around the same time, in 2017, and a year later our first improvised production line was in operation.
We set the parameters of the brick for the European market, choosing the classic Austrian format, which corresponds to the traditional appearance of European buildings and at the same time guarantees easy handling of the bricks during construction thanks to their low weight of approximately 3.5 kg.
However, the most important thing was to come up with the right material composition of the brick so that the required properties of each piece were ensured, in particular sufficient strength, abrasion resistance, frost resistance, water absorption and many other parameters.
This took 2 years of testing and experimentation before we were satisfied with the result. Subsequently, these bricks underwent a demanding process of strict certification.
The current production plant of Česká Cihelna s.r.o. has been located a short distance from Prague since 2019, in the Mořina Quarry, where the key raw material for the production of our bricks is mined – natural limestone. This is a modern plant focusing on precise bricks, which are created by pressing under very high pressure. Since the Western European market was much more open to innovative solutions even during the Covid period, most of our customers today are builders primarily from Western Germany and France, and from neighboring Austria, so all production has so far been exported. However, we believe that bricks from Česká Cihelna should also be seen in the domestic environment, and therefore we intend to reserve part of the production for Czech customers.
With the success of bricks as the main building material for houses, there was a demand for exterior tiles that would match the brick facades of these houses. We started thinking again and it didn’t take long before, after minor adjustments to the production process, we started supplying decorative tiles along with bricks. Given that our bricks were most successful in France, we chose the elegant fleur-de-lis pattern for it, a symbol of the lily flower, which was chosen as the main emblem of the monarchs of the French kingdom in the 12th century and is still popular across the continents.
